A Greater Manchester club boasts an amateur veterans team with 9 ex- Premier League players in their present squad.

222 Premier League Goals, Three Hundred Twenty-Five Global Caps

The team Vets Over 35s are based in southern Manchester and compete in the Cheshire-based Vets Division Premier Division.

Their roster this campaign includes nine ex- Premier League players, with a total over 1,800 top-flight games.

This star-studded squad also contains 222 top division goals and over 320 international appearances.

The squad feature Papiss Cisse, who netted 37 scores in 117 games for Newcastle United after signing for them for £9m from German league club Freiburg in 2012.

Stephen Ireland started turning out for the team in pre-season this summer through close friend and current team teammate Blake Norton, and the ex- Irish midfielder then invited other former professionals, who all compete in a weekly nine-a-side match, to participate.

Former Senegal striker Oumar Niasse, who scored 12 goals in sixty-five top-flight games for the Toffees and even now goes to their home games, also had his debut against Collegiate OB - who are based in Liverpool and wear an Everton training kit as their strip.

"My friend Stephen said 'come and play, it's good fun'," said Niasse.

"Then he told me we were playing a team from the city and the shock I had when I noticed them wearing Everton shirts - I thought this is wrong for me!

"When you still enjoy the game and you know you can still play, anywhere you can kick a ball, what are you going to choose?

"The people who come and watch are happy and to give someone's moment if they watch us playing there and to pose us questions - it's more like the joy of us having somewhere we can play, with structure of course."

So great is the squad depth at the club, he made his debut at full-back.

"It's a little unusual but then, I enjoy running and just go forward - I'm not defending that much," he added.

"I warn my centre-back 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to keep running.

"The running is what I'm looking for. It's good fun."

Along with Cisse's 6 scores on debut, Ireland has netted 8 in 3 appearances for the side, while Boyd hit 5 on his first match and Joleon Lescott, a centre-half by trade, scored a triple in one match as a striker.

Wythenshawe are top of the Top Division with 3 victories from three and a goal difference of plus nineteen.

Paul Barrow, 38, who plays on the flank for Collegiate OB, came up against ex- Latics full-back Maynor Figueroa on Sunday - and had to explain his young son who Heskey was.

He has appeared at two global tournaments for his country, in as well as featuring in over 200 top-flight matches.

"The news was spreading like wildfire they had all these ex-Premier League stars," remarked Barrow.

"I felt I was a bit starstruck playing against Figueroa to be honest.

"Also Emile [Heskey] got on and he's got 60-odd England caps.

"Our side competed well for a good 20 minutes but then we had a man sent off and it was tough.

"Our group literally have not stopped talking about it - I was calling my mother and brother on the way home.

"They were all friendly, shaking our hands after the match - it was like playing a group of normal fellas.

"Now we can't wait for the second match."
